The Hamsa is one of the most famous charms in the world, familiar with both Jews and Muslims who sees in the Hamsa Hand a talisman against misfortune and evil eye. The words 'Hamsa' and 'Hamesh' means number five and refer to the number of fingers on the hand. Most Hamsa hand appears with two bilaterally symmetrical form thumbs. Many Hamsa hands have the image of an eye or a gemstone in the palm, a symbol for god's eye watching from above. The eye in Hamsa hand is a common item in Israel, Islamic countries, India, Latin and South America and the United States. Hamsa hand can be made in any media from gold, silver, copper, pewter or wood, and can appear in a multitude of sizes, from small jewelries to wall decoration. The Hamsa hand can be facing either upward or downward. Most often Hamsa hands are worn around the neck with the fingers facing down. In many Jewish homes there are Hamsa hands on doorways or on the walls, placed to keep evil eye away. Many Hamsa Hands are azure colored, as for the Jewish belief of it being a color against evil eye.
Although most Hamsa hands are amulets, modern Israeli Hamsas are sometimes made in the form of ceramic wall plaques in which a hand-lettered Hebrew prayer appears in the center of the palm. The Hamsa Hand is used to draw good fortune, happiness and good health to the wearer or the house it's placed in. In its role of protection, The Hamsa is also believed to protect from the evil eye. The Hamsa is also believed to bring blessings from God, and to calm and help focus on different tasks.

The Hamsa hand appears mostly as a symmetrically shaped hand, where the thumb and the little finger are even and parallel. Hamsas are generally decorated with different patterns and colors. Lots of Hamsas are decorated with an eye, a symbol for God's protection against evil eye. There are many varied symbols of life, good fortune, and protection against evil eye that are used to decorate Hamsa hands. Other common Hamsas' decorations features fish, Blessing of the home, letters, Stars of David etc.
The Hamsa Hand has been used for centuries as a symbol and amulet for protection against evil eye or misfortune. The Hamsa hand is known in Jewish lore as the “Hand of Miriam” while in Islam it is known as the 'Hand of Fatima'. A Hamsa is actually an Arabic word meaning 'five', related to the Hebrew word 'Hamesh' which naturally represents the five fingers of the hand.
Hamsas are popular amulets among Muslims as well as Jews. Hamsas can be found in several places. Some people hang Hamsas on doorways, on car's mirrors or on walls. Some people carry hamsas in their pockets, wallets, key chains etc, and some even wear Hamsas on their neck.
The Hamsa hand origin is in the Middle East and it consider as most popular amulet among Muslims who believe that the Hamsa Hand symbolizes the hand of Fatima, daughter of Mohamed. According to the Jewish tradition, the Hamsa Hand symbolizes the hand of Miriam, sister of Moses and Aaron.
