When putting on the Tefillin, the hand Tefillin are laid first. Its place is on the inner side of the left arm, above the elbow, on the bicep, level to the heart. When the arm hangs, the Tefillin must rest near the heart. People who are left handed wear the Tefillin on their right arm. After the Tefillin are fastened on the bare arm, the strap is wrapped seven times round the arm. After putting the hand tefilin, it is time to wear the head tefilin. The head tefilin is placed in the middle of the forehead with the knot of the strap at the back of the head and overhanging the middle of the neck, while the two ends of the strap, with the blackened side outward, hang over the shoulders in front.
When not used, Tefillin must be stored in a Tefillin covers. Tefillin covers are made to keep the Tefilin from being exposed to dust or any other thing. Tefillin covers are used also to carry the Tefilin from one place to another and to prevent the Tefilin from falling onto the ground. Most Tefillin covers are made from velvet, though there are also Tefillin covers made of silk.
